After celebrating their wedding at Lake Como, Caroline and Mark travelled to Venice for a few days before continuing their journey. Visiting from the United States, they wanted to capture this part of their honeymoon with photographs that felt personal to them.

They found me through social media, and our conversations soon revealed a shared idea for their Venice honeymoon photoshoot: a walk through quieter streets, with time to enjoy the city together.

The newlyweds wanted to explore beyond the familiar views of St Mark’s Square and Venice’s most photographed landmarks. They were drawn to the smaller streets, tucked-away corners and everyday surroundings that give the city its character.

We met outside their hotel in Dorsoduro on a warm, sunny afternoon. From the very first hello, they were both welcoming and gracious. Caroline has the kind of smile that lights up a room, and it was lovely to begin our walk feeling so comfortable together.

We started close to their hotel, exploring the neighbourhood and stopping wherever the light or a little corner caught our attention.

Along the way, we stopped by Squer di San Trovaso, a traditional boatyard where gondolas are built and repaired. Its wooden buildings beside the canal brought another side of Venice into their story: the craft behind the boats that are so much a part of the city.

From there, we continued through the streets towards the Grand Canal and the Ponte dell’Accademia. We paused for photographs along the way, moving between little streets and open views across the water.

I loved having that variety within one walk. The neighbourhood gave us both intimate corners and room to step back, placing Caroline and Mark within the city around them.

As the sun dropped lower, we turned back towards the waterfront overlooking Giudecca, hoping to catch the sunset.

The light guided this part of our walk. We stopped beside the water for an embrace, a few quiet moments and photographs in the last warmth of the afternoon sun.

Perhaps this is what marriage is all about — choosing each other, holding hands, and growing old together.

I couldn’t tell their story without mentioning their outfits. Her ivory dress, with its delicate floral lace and flowing skirt, looked beautiful beside his deep brown trousers and matching overshirt, paired with a light beige knit top and black loafers.
There was a lovely balance between the romance of her dress and the relaxed tailoring of his outfit. The soft ivory and warm brown tones felt perfectly at home among Venice’s weathered façades and evening light. As a photographer, I loved capturing those textures and the way her skirt moved as they walked.

We finished our walk at Punta della Dogana, with the Doge’s Palace across the water as the backdrop for our final photographs. After exploring the quieter streets of Dorsoduro, it felt lovely to end with this open view of Venice.

What stays with me from this afternoon is Caroline’s radiant smile and Mark’s quiet, gentlemanly charm. Together, they brought such warmth and grace to our walk through Venice. From the first photographs outside their hotel to the last moments by the lagoon, it was a beautiful little chapter of their Italian honeymoon.

Your session can begin close to where you are staying and take shape around the places you would love to explore. Quiet streets, waterfront views or a gondola ride can all become part of your story.
